About Kate: A Journey of Healing, Nourishment, and Purpose

When I look back at the path that brought me here—to baking, to sourdough, to building a space where real food and real stories matter—it’s impossible to separate it from the life I’ve lived and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

I’ve been an oncology nurse since 2002, spending more than two decades caring for patients and families walking through some of the hardest moments of their lives. That work shaped me deeply. It taught me compassion, resilience, and the importance of advocating for what truly supports health and healing.

But in 2024, everything shifted. I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and suddenly I was no longer just the nurse—I was the patient. Surgeries, chemotherapy, recovery… it was a season that changed me in ways I’m still discovering.

A New Awareness of What We Eat

During treatment, I became hyper‑aware of the food we eat and the ingredients we often overlook. Reading labels with a more discerning eye became a turning point. I realized how many unnecessary preservatives, additives, and ultra‑processed ingredients had quietly made their way into everyday foods—foods I was feeding my own family.

As I dug deeper into clean, intentional baking, I also became aware of another hidden issue: plastic exposure. It’s everywhere—especially in the kitchen. I realized I could reduce our exposure by choosing glass, stainless steel, and cast iron for baking, cooking, and storing ingredients. So that’s what I did.

Today, I minimize plastic wherever possible, from the bowls I mix in to the containers I store flour in. It’s one more way I protect my family’s health, and it’s become a core part of how I bake.

I knew I wanted something different for us.

I wanted nourishment that was real.

Ingredients I could pronounce.

Food that supported healing instead of working against it.

That mission became a driving force in my life.

A Gift That Changed Everything

During my recovery, a dear friend gifted me a jar of sourdough starter. It was such a simple gesture, but it opened a door I didn’t expect. At the same time my job was unexpectedly dissolved at the hospital. We moved to the country. We introduced backyard chickens and a home garden so we could take ownership of our ingredients from the source. This philosophy became the heart behind the name Kate’s Pasture to Pantry.

I started baking—experimenting, learning, failing, trying again. With two boys who have very particular palates, there was no shortage of “learning opportunities.” But slowly, something beautiful happened. I found joy in the process. I found creativity. I found healing.

And I found a way to feed my family food that was both deeply nourishing and genuinely delicious.

Choosing Better—For Health, For Home, For the Future

Baking With Purpose

My sourdough isn’t just a bread product—it’s a reflection of everything I’ve learned.

• I push fermentation longer to increase digestibility and health benefits.

• I use organic ingredients.

• I incorporate ancient grains like Kamut and einkorn for their flavor, nutrition, and connection to traditional baking.

• I bake in small batches, with intention and care.

What I offer on my website is exactly what I feed my own family. Nothing less.

From My Kitchen to Yours

This journey has been shaped by love, healing, and a desire to nourish the people who matter most—my two boys, my incredibly supportive husband, and now, you.

I’m proud to share these recipes, these breads, and this mission with you. I hope you feel the same benefits we do: better ingredients, better flavor, better health, and the comfort of food made with purpose.

Thank you for being here.

Thank you for supporting this work.

And thank you for letting me share a piece of my story with you.
